

Marva Joyce Nunn, 62, of Syracuse, was called home to bloom in the garden of her heavenly father on Monday, March 19, 2012. Born in Luxora, Arkansas on May 21, 1949, she was the youngest daughter of Fred and Ruby Lee Nunn. Marva Nunn served as a faithful member of Second Olivet Missionary Baptist Church for 52 years under the late Rev. William A. Mack, Sr., Rev. H. Benard Alex and most recently under Rev. Aaron M. James, Sr. She served as a member of the Pastoral Aide Committee and the Women’s Department, and a past member of the Revelation Gospel Choir, Ms. Nunn retired from the Syracuse City School District in April 2011 where she was employed for 33 years. While working as a Teaching Assistant, Marva touched the lives of both her coworkers and students. Marva enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and playing “special games”. She influenced many lives through her kind spirit and pleasant smile. Marva was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Larry Nunn.
She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory; one daughter, Stacey S. Nunn; two grandchildren, Carter B. Thorn and Nelson V. Dickens; three sisters, Helen L. Anderson of New York, NY, Sarah F. Smith and Imogene Thweatt; one brother, Darrell Nunn, all of Syracuse; sister-in-law, Maureen Nunn, of Victor, NY; one aunt, Lottie Mae Coleman of Memphis, TN; best friends, Helen Ingram, Stella Fain, and Veronica Clanton; and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday 1 P.M. at Second Olivet Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the church, 818 S. West Street, Syracuse NY 13202.
