Mary Jane (Reichel) Loverock, 92, of Syracuse passed away on Wednesday at the Francis House with family by her side. A lifelong resident of the Northside of Syracuse, she was in the first graduating class of Grant Junior High, which opened in 1933, graduated from North High School in 1938, where she earned a block letter for sports; graduate of Blodgett Vocational High School; and honor graduate from CCBI. She entered the Federal Service in September 1941. She retired from USDA Soil Conservation Service as a Secretary to NYS Soil Conservation Scientists in 1983. Among other agencies that she worked for were: U.S. Corps of Engineers, Social Security Administration, University College Counseling Office, Cheplin Laboratories, Onondaga Civil Service, USPS, Syracuse Ornamental Co, NYS Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped. Mary Jane was a lifetime member of Assumption Church, Syracuse Turners Honorary and Ladies Auxiliary, Catholic Golden Agers, NAMI-PROMISE, NARFE, AARP, PSI, Round and Square Clubs (8 & Dates), McChesney Senior Center and St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid gardener along with many other hobbies. Her greatest joy in life was raising her nine children.
She is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Raymond; granddaughter, Judith Roser; her parents, John and Mathilda (Mattes) Reichel and Honey, her cat.
Mary Jane is survived by her nine children, Dr. Susan (Farl) Grundy of Sacramento, CA, Dr. Linda (Stephen) Robinson of Fayetteville, NY, Barbara (Wayne) Chudyk of Somerville, MA, Raymond K. (Jeanne) Loverock of Camarillo, CA, Bruce (Bonna) Loverock of Thurmont, MD, Beverly (Jeffrey) Gibbs of Liverpool, Wendy (Leon) Zera of San Antonio, TX, Marjorie (Ronald) Beebe of Liverpool and Donald Loverock of Syracuse; brother, Elmer (Annabelle) Reichel of Essex, MD; 18 grandchildren, Rance and Ryan Roser, Lauren, Kevin and Kristen Robinson, Carl, Karen, Keith and Kevin Chudyk, Amber McCauley and Kathryn Loverock, Christine, Frankie and Danny DeLorenzo, Rachel and Darlene Zera, and Elizabeth and Zachary Beebe; nine great-grandchildren, William, Megan, Riley, Julianne, Acadia and Aurora Roser, Natalie and Ryan McCauley and Elliot Urrutia; several nieces, nephews and cousins and sister-in-law, Nancy Rawlinson, of New Jersey.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, 9:15 a.m. at FARONE & SON FUNERAL HOME and 10 a.m. at Assumption Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park Street.
