

Philip V. Toia of Syracuse passed away Monday at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a short illness. A life resident of Syracuse, he was a graduate of Assumption High School. In 1988, Philip retired from the U.S. Postal Service. After retirement, Mr. Toia worked at Atena Insurance and Fiserve for many years. A devout catholic, he was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church where he was a member of Holy Name Society, Usher and a Bingo worker. Philip was also a member of the Golden Agers. A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Toia served his country where he was stationed in Germany. He was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital as well as Assumption Church Food Pantry.
Philip is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Frances (Saya) Toia; one daughter, Denise (Frank) Kramer of Clinton, NY; one son, Philip (Sheila) Toia of Syracuse, NY; sisters, Mary (Charles) LaCorte of Michigan and Virginia (Carmen) Perrotti of Liverpool; one brother, Vito (BettyJane) Toia of Syracuse; three grandchildren, Christian and Lundy Toia and Luke Kramer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter’s Church.
Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral services from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 301 Ash Street.
Contributions may be made to Assumption Church Food Pantry or the Francis House.
