Oh! What a long and good life she led! Full of love, laughter, quick smiles, lots of music and dancing and happiness!
She was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She was very active during the war providing accordion music and dancing in the USO. She met her husband at the USO in San Antonio and married her sweetheart, Roy Leon McElwee, February 23, 1946. They prospered, were happy and raised a family in Taft, Texas. They were married 62 years when Mac died. The following years were more lonely and challenging.
Earlene lived at Carriage Inn for 1.5 years and then on to The Pavilion Assisted Living and then to Coastal Palms Nursing Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy “Mac”; her second child, Scott Alan and her parents, Earle and Tommie Benke.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Roylene Tiner (David) and her son, Ross Lee (Brenda); her grandchildren are: Aaron Edwards (Mandi), Sara Buttery (Joey), Holly Clark (Clinton), Kate McElwee and Russell McElwee (Kaycee). There are also step-grandchildren: Hollie Davis (Lincoln) and Devon Tiner (Dawn). A houseful of great-grandchildren, Michael Edwards, Abby and Braxton Buttery, and Camille and Teague Clark.
She was known and loved by many. She was Mama, Granny, the Tupperware lady, Mama Mac, Aunt and a friend too many. She demonstrated and taught her faith in God in words, actions, presence and prayer.
Thanks need to be extended to so many people that helped both Mama and her family over the past years, but especially these past few months, weeks and days. We hope you know who you are and that we who are left have told you thank you! For making her last week’s easier for her and for her family.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Earlene’s Life will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Taft.
