Maria Martinez Garcia

Maria M. Garcia went to be with her Lord on Friday, September 13, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 69. She was born on January 28, 1944, in Taft, Texas. Maria worked many years for CCISD before her retirement. She was well known throughout the surrounding Corpus Christi area as one of the best seamstresses. Maria enjoyed baking Wedding and Quinceanera cakes for friends and family. She also enjoyed crafting, painting and fishing. But her passion in life was watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in any activities.

She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother

She is preceded in death by her son, Juan F. Hernandez III (Red); her mother, Virginia Fierro; biological mother, Francis C. Martinez; father, Jesus Martinez; brother, Sam Chavez and sister; Virginia G. Bejar.

Maria is survived by her loving husband of fifty years, Carlos Garcia of San Antonio, Texas; two sons, Robert (Debbie) Garcia of Corpus Christi,Texas; adopted son, Juan Carlos Hernandez of San Antonio; four daughters: Christina (Paul) Gonzales of San Antonio, Irma Garcia of Pearland, Texas, Terri (Ruben) Lozano of San Antonio, Rosie (Ralph) Villarreal of Corpus Christi; three adopted daughters, Christina Hernandez, Jeri-Lynn Ceballos and Tomi J. Garcia; daughter-in-law, Rosie Ortiz; twenty grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; six sisters: Juana Jaime, Margarita Serrano, Alicia Garcia, Aurora Garcia, Rosita Sifuentes and her best friend Adela Pena; two brothers, Joe Martinez and Juan Chavez.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 20, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Taft. Burial will follow the service at Taft Memorial Park.
