Angela Denise Manus, affectionately referred to as “Angel” by her husband, was born on March, 19, 1956 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of William and Lucille (Blackbird) Walker. Angela grew up and attended school in the Cherokee County areas of Stone Chapel, and Tahlequah, where she attended elementary and high school.
Throughout her entire life, she enjoyed spending time with her siblings. There is a lot of mischief that seven siblings can get into, but all knew that Angela was in charge. To each of them she gave her devotion and love. However, all knew that when Angela said “that’s enough,” she meant it. It was a common understanding that Angela was the boss. There is no one you would rather have in your corner than Angel. Angela loved remembering the past, and all that encompassed growing up in a big family. Seven children and a few close cousins can get into a lot of predicaments, and she delighted in laughing about the many escapades shared between her and those she was closest to when growing up. Angela had a bit of an ornery streak, like her daddy. She was always up for a good laugh.
On February 7 of 1974, Angela married the love of her life, David Keith Manus. Like most love stories, not every chapter was perfect, but throughout the journey of life and love, both clung to one another, and the ending was nothing less than a story to be remembered for all times. Angela and David were completely devoted to each other. Together, they brought joy to everyone they encountered with their jovial back-and-forth banter. The two were a modern day version of the Honeymooners. Angela and David kept the world in laughter. And, they loved doing life together. Angela was the center of everything to David.
Together, David and Angela brought into this world a daughter and a son, both of whom inherited Angela’s smile, and ornery spirit. Like her father before her, Angela loved her family, and cherished their time together. She supported her children in all that they endeavored and loved them unconditionally.
Angela was a devoted Christian, and loved Jesus with her whole heart. A committed member of the First Apostolic Church, Angela served God with her entire being. She strived to live a holy life, and believed wholeheartedly in the importance of worship. One of her greatest pleasures in life was attending church, and being in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. In many ways, Angela’s life truly began when she gave her heart to the Lord. She loved to read the Bible, and she never hesitated to share the Word of God with others.
Angela worked for many years for the Tahlequah City Hospital Home Health Service, and genuinely loved and became invested in the wellbeing of every patient in her care. She continued on in the healthcare industry, providing care for persons with developmental disabilities until her retirement. Overseeing the care of others came very naturally to Angela.
Angela was a simple woman, and she lived a simple life. Her greatest treasures in this world were her family, particularly her grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She loved embarking upon a good road trip, and was always eager to go. Angela loved the long drives to Washington to see David’s family, and particularly loved the drive through the Rocky Mountains. She loved fishing on the creek banks of Camp Gruber, and enjoyed leisurely drives in the country with David looking for deer. Angela loved to read the Bible, and fictional stories based on Christian beliefs. She loved family dinners, and snuggles with her grandchildren. She loved antiques and designer bags which her daughter delighted in giving her on every celebratory occasion. Angela loved to visit with others and will be recalled as the warmest and most loving of hearts. She will forever be remembered for her smile and willingness to laugh. No matter what, her smile never faded, her laughter never ended. Her faith in God, or family never wavered.
At the age of sixty-five the Lord Jesus Christ embraced Angela in his arms on September 5, 2021 in Braggs, Oklahoma. She was surrounded by the love of her family, and will be deeply missed for the love that she gave, the happiness she brought to others, her willingness to pray, her warm smile, and her unforgettable laugh.
Angela was embraced at the gates of heaven by her loving parents, William and Lucille Walker, and her sister Karen Adair.
Those left to carry on the legacy and cherish her memory are her husband, David of the home; her daughter Veronica Maturino and husband Eddie of Tulsa; her son Jeff Manus and wife Greta of Beggs; grandson Chase Vanover and wife Maida of Claremore; granddaughter Braley of Tulsa; grandson Dylan Manus of Beggs; two great grandchildren-Jett Chase and Walker Haris of Claremore; brother Gordon Walker and wife Barbara of Tahlequah, sister Sheryl Kizzia of Park Hill, sister Janet Lawrence and husband Mat of Park Hill, sister Marla Walker of Tahlequah, and sister Carla Clark of Tahlequah. Angela will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, whom she loved with her whole heart, as well as a host of friends and family.
