Flora Annette Hakes, known as Annette, was born in Tahlequah, OK on August 19, 1960, the daughter to Eva & Clifford Fountain. She was called to her heavenly home on December 29, 2022 at the age of 62 years old, surrounded by her loved ones.
Annette attended school at Keys and Tahlequah Public Schools. On July 25, 1980, she married the love of her life, Danny Hakes and they raised their family together in Hulbert, OK.
Annette was a very hard worker but the job she treasured most was being a teacher’s assistant at Hulbert Public School for the past 27 years until her health declined and she had to retire earlier this year. She loved her students like her own and enjoyed the many field trips with them over the years. Her coworkers were like family to her.
What she loved more than anything in the world was cooking, baking, and gathering with her loved ones. Nobody ever left hungry and would have to take home days’ worth of leftovers. She enjoyed collecting treasures at yard sales, gardening, and watching the hummingbirds while visiting with friends and family from the back porch. Her grandkids will say that she loved to have fun too whether picking fresh strawberries and making strawberry shortcake, painting, or swimming on an air mattress in the pool with them, even if the pool was only knee deep. Her face lit up when she seen them, and she would welcome them with a hug and kiss. Regardless of her health, she selflessly put everyone else first. Her love and laughter will be missed by all that knew her.
Annette is preceded in death by both parents, brother Paul Fountain, son Ricky Lee, and father-in-law Lonnie Hakes.
Annette is survived by her husband Danny of the home, mother-in-law Wanda Hakes of Hulbert, OK, sister Dathina Triplett and husband Kevin of Tahlequah, OK, stepdaughter Bobbie Smith and husband Terry of Peggs, OK, daughter Kimberly Scott and companion Barney Beaumont of Hulbert, OK, son Dan Allen Hakes and wife Bethany of Hulbert, OK. She was a loving Grammy to Trey Lee, Kelsey Lee, Lanie Lee, Madison Kinsey, Andrew Carey, Carli Carey, Mazie Carey, Dawnielle Keck, Wyatt Scott, Allie Scott, Leah Gifford, and Haleigh Hakes. She was a Great Grammy to Brynleigh, Hadleigh, Gannon, and Morgan. A bonus daughter, Julie Jordan and husband Steven and bonus grandkids Miranda, Maddison, and Dustin.
