Arter A. Epperson was born on September 4th, 1950 in Siloam Springs, AR, the son of Harvey Lee Andrew and Bernice Hazel (Carpenter) Epperson. He grew up in a large, loving family, six brothers and four sisters, and was born a twin. Sadly, his brother did not survive his birth. He attended school in Siloam Springs. He went to work to help support the family doing odd jobs of all sorts, whatever needed doing. He would meet and fall in love with Mary Alice Keys, and they were wed on August 5th, 1974, in Wilburton, AR. This union was blessed with 47 years of happiness and memories and five children to raise, Alice, Jack, Audrey, Arter Kale and Arter Harvey. Arter loved to tinker on motors, especially lawn mowers, and he liked doing this tinkering while listening to his favorite music. He kept himself busy with church functions and always helped his wife with the ministry at the Boys Home, working with disadvantaged youth that needed special attention. He was bubbly and cheerful, a real joy to talk to and as easy going as the day was long. He was just as comfortable working a puzzle book as he was shopping for bargains at the second hand shop. There was always wildlife to watch in the yard, like the birds, deer, opossums, and raccoons. He couldn’t wait to spend time with his grandchildren; he thought they were the best people on the earth. The holiday and any occasion to get his family all together was special for Arter. He lost his beloved Mary earlier in the month, and it nearly broke his heart. The Lord called Arter home with Mary on June 23rd, 2021 in Tahlequah, OK, following a brief illness. Arter was 70 year old and will be greatly missed.
Arter joins his mother, father, wife Mary Alice, his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Parsley and maternal grandparents, Andrew and Sylvia Carpenter, five brothers, twin brother baby boy Epperson, Vernon, Harold, Floyd, Eugene and two sisters, Dorothy Rolus and Barbara Fletcher.
Those left to celebrate his life include his children, Alice Smith and husband Martin of Cherokee County, OK, Jack Monholland of Keys, OK, Audrey Star Adair of Tahlequah, OK, and twin sons, Arter Kale Lee Epperson and wife Evelyn Marie of Moore, OK, and Arter Harvey Lee Epperson of Tahlequah, OK. He leaves one brother, George Epperson of Siloam Springs, AR, and two sisters, Hazel Windham and husband Gary of Springdale, AR, and Ruby Epperson of Roseburg, OR. Arter lives on in his twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
