TAHLEQUAH, OK – Funeral services for Bessie Lou Wilson will be held on Wednesday, July 16th, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Reed-Culver Chapel with Pastor Perry Jamison officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15th, 2014 from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Reed-Culver Chapel. Interment will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery. Bessie Lou Wilson was born on March 17th, 1930 in Tahlequah, OK in the Needmore Commuity, the daughter of Elbert Ross and Gertrude V. (Calico) Jamison. Bessie grew up in a household with ten brothers and sisters. During WWII, her brother Roy served in the US Army and met a friend, Bill Wilson. Following the war, Bessie met Bill and they began a wedded relationship on October 18th, 1956, lasting 45 years, and raising four children together. Bessie was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, friend. She always found time to shower attention on her family and friends alike. Bessie and Bill remained in Michigan where Bill earned his living as a Quality Control Supervisor for Ford Motor Company. Whenever they had time off together, Bessie and her family enjoyed working in the yard and garden, traveling around to see the sights, or just relaxing on the front porch. The family was the most important part of Bessie and Bill’s life. Bessie was a Christian by faith and attended the Baptist Church. She served as a volunteer at Tahlequah city hospital and the “Remarkables” shop downtown for over twenty years. She possessed a bright smile and a warm personality that immediately made people feel at home with Bessie. Following the passing of her husband Bill in 2001, Bessie took her remaining time and spent it with her beloved family and serving others in the community. She really enjoyed any chance she got to spent time with her grandchildren, they were her pride and joy. Bessie passed from this life on July 12th, 2014 at her home in Tahlequah, OK at the age of 84. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Bessie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters and three brothers.
Those left to cherish her memory include her four adored children, Janelle and J.W. Glidewell, Wayne Anthony and Valerie Wilson, Charles Ross “Chuck” Wilson, and James Richard Wilson. She leaves one sister and one brother, Mary Jane Howard and Huey Ross Jamison. Her legacy of life and love live on in her eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
