Betty spent her childhood in Sparrow Hawk, near Tahlequah, Oklahoma, before moving to Kenwood. She attended school in Kenwood and later in Pryor through the ninth grade. It was there that life led her to the love of her life, Mack Foreman. They were married on June 2, 1948, and together built the cowboy way of life that would become the foundation of generations to come. Together they were blessed with eight children.
Betty worked as a cook at the Mullendore Ranch for more than ten years, feeding ranch hands and cowboys with the same care she later showed everyone who ever sat at her table. She later worked for Simmons Foods until her retirement in 1984. Retirement simply meant she poured even more of herself into the people she loved. She spent this time helping raise grandchildren, caring for family, and making sure no one ever left her home hungry. Betty had a remarkable gift for making people feel cared for. She loved gardening, crocheting, sewing, baking, and cooking. Somehow, every meal she made tasted better because it was served with love. If you ever had the privilege of sitting at her table, you know exactly what that meant. She had a lifelong love of music, especially the timeless songs of Elvis Presley, and was rarely seen without her signature turquoise jewelry.
Her greatest joy was in the people she gathered. She made strangers feel like neighbors and neighbors feel like family. Betty and Mack spent their lives doing the simple things over and over again. They worked hard, provided for their family, showed up, and loved faithfully. They opened their doors without hesitation and gave generously to anyone in need. Together, they built a home. A place where everyone was fed, cared for, and a place where they belonged. By the world’s standards, they never had much. Yet somehow, you never would have known it. That home was rich. Rich with laughter echoing through the kitchen, with people lingering around the table, or gathered on the porch, long after the meal was finished. It was rich with stories told over cups of sweet tea, children running through the yard, and the quiet assurance that there was always room for one more.
Betty leaves behind something money could never buy: a family that loves one another, shows up for one another, works hard, extends kindness freely, and understands that the richest life is measured by the people around your table. That is her legacy. Not possessions or accomplishments, but people.
Betty is reunited with those who had gone before her: her parents; her beloved husband, Mack Foreman; her brother, Bud Terrapin; her sister, Wanda Post; sons, Short and Tarz Foreman; and her grandson, Shane Ray Foreman.
She leaves behind a family that was the joy of her life: son Mick Foreman and wife Bobbie of Leach, Oklahoma; son Dick Foreman and wife Julie of Bluejacket, Oklahoma; daughter Ann Foreman of Oaks, Oklahoma; son Bogue Foreman and wife Neci of Lenapah, Oklahoma; daughter Bush Foreman of Oaks, Oklahoma; and son Tex Foreman and wife Teresa of Oaks, Oklahoma. She was the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who quickly became family.
There are no words that can fully encompass the space her passing leaves in the hearts of those who loved her. She had a heart of gold and love for everyone. With a smile on her face she made everyone feel like family. Her legacy will continue to live through every meal shared, every smile given, every helping hand offered, every story retold, and every act of quiet generosity inspired by her example. She was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed. She is gone but never forgotten. Forever Foreman Strong.
