
Darrell Deane Smith was born on March 31, 1930 in Delphos, KS the son of Gerald Anthony and Marjorie Nancy (Harper) Smith. Darrell received his certificate as an Electrician and worked for the Colorado Interstate Gas Company. On October 12, 1949, he married his wife, Julia Belle Kelley and they were wed in Eads, CO. This union was blessed with five children, and ended in 1999 with the passing of his wife, Julia. Darrell was a hard working industrious man. When he wasn’t working, he loved to spend a day fishing. He was talented with wood and made clocks and furniture. He was an excellent repairman and specialized in golf cart repair. Cheerful and happy, quick with a joke, Darrell made friends everywhere he traveled. He retired to the Zapata, TX area and had many friends at the Four Seasons Park. When he wasn’t at Zapata, he could be found in the Cookson area with his fiancé, Jane Ellison. A Christian by faith , Darrell was a member of the Cookson United Methodist Church and also worked the mission field for the Methodist Church on Falcon Lake. On Saturday September, 25, 2010, the Lord called Darrell to his eternal home .He passed at the Tahlequah City hospital, with his family at his side. He was eighty years old. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Julia.
Those left to cherish his memory include his five loving children, Deborah Thomas of Ft. Smith, AR, Anthony Smith and wife Carol of Turpin, OK, twin boys Michael Smith and wife Roquelle of Ashland, KS, Mitchell Smith and wife Linda of Perryton, TX, and LaGina Smith of Van Buren, AR, . He leaves a brother, Gary Smith and wife Louise of Potwin, KS. His legacy lives on in his twelve grandchildren, David Thomas, John Thomas, Timmy Smith, Chris Benson, Rob Benson, Becky Benson, Jeremy Smith, Justin Smith, Keyley Smith, Ty Daniel Smith, and Caitlin Smith. Darrell also leaves eleven great grandchildren, his fiancé Jane Ellison of Cookson, OK as well as many friends and loved ones.
