Darren Len Griffin was born on December 13, 1970, in Tulsa, OK, the son of “Little” Bill Griffin and Janet (Davis) Barnett. He was raised with two sisters, Melanie and Jennifer Barnett. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, leaving his home in Broken Arrow and relocating to Camp Pendleton, CA. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Pistol Sharpshooter Badge, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and Meritorious Mast. He was honorably discharged after serving from 1989 to 1992.
Upon returning home, Darren began his career in law enforcement in Tulsa County, later moving to Collinsville as a police officer. He then pursued his dream of serving on the Highway Patrol, where he served the state of Kansas for over 20 years. Darren was a proud father to two sons, William and Ethan. He enjoyed his downtime rebuilding classic trucks and spending time with his canine companions, Layla and Penelope.
Darren was cheerful and loved people. He had a Marine-tough exterior, but beneath it, he was full of humor, warmth, and a contagious childlike enthusiasm. He loved his friends, family, and country deeply and served them all with devotion. A Christian by faith, the Lord called this hardworking man home from his many labors on July 23, 2025, in Tahlequah, OK. He was 54 years old and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons: William Griffin and granddaughter Ellie; Ethan Griffin, wife Telissa, and grandson Cade. He also leaves behind his mother: Janet Barnett and sisters: Melanie, Stephanie, and Jennifer Barnett; his special Aunt Karen Griffin; Uncle Ken Griffin; Uncle Jim Griffin; and cousins Katie, Belle, and Liam Green. Darren is also remembered by many more family members, friends, and co-workers who shared love and friendship with him.
Forever in our hearts.
Funeral services for Darren Len Griffin will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, with military honors rendered by the United States Marine Corps.
