David "Sak" Lyle Cookson

Funeral Services for David Cookson will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Reed-Culver Funeral home with Bro. Bobby Muskgrove officiating. Interment will follow at Levi Cookson Cemetery in Park Hill, OK. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Reed-Culver Funeral home beginning at 1:00pm until 6:00pm

Serving as Pallbearers are Damien Cookson, Uriah Cookson, Ryan Cookson, Blake Cookson, Joe Sloan, Skylar Green, Andy Hathcoat and Wesley Hathcoat. Honorary pallbearers are BJ Baker, Jon Swepston, Ricky Ballard, Kevin Swepston and John Hathcoat.

David Lyle Cookson, 66, of Welling, Oklahoma left this world to be with the Lord on November, 1st, 2019 in his home.

David was born on November 18th 1952 to Ogden and Mary Alice Cookson. David was born in Guymon, Oklahoma and grew up in Keys, Oklahoma. After high school he attended Okmulgee Tech where he received a Certificate in Auto Body Repair.

David married Bernice Hathcoat in October of 1973. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, listening to tunes, watching movies, and having a cup of coffee on the porch. David worked for years in the auto body industry prior to his employment at Cherokee Nation where he retired. David had the most infectious smile and was made of kindness and patience.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Tommy Cookson and Lindol “Hank” Cookson.

David is survived by his wife, Bernice Cookson and the six children they raised together; Bernadette Cookson, Damien Cookson, Uriah Cookson, Sandra Hathcoat, Wesley “checker” Hathcoat, and Andy Hathcoat. His grandchildren; Heather Baker and husband BJ, Skylar Green and wife Aariel, Rhea Fears and husband Justin, Ryan Cookson and wife Breeanna, Jesten Simmons, Blake Cookson, and Caleb Simmons. David has five great grandchildren; Avrie Baker, BrynnLeigh Cookson, Kutler Cookson, Ayla Fears, and Rowen Cookson.

I'm sorry to hear of Sak's passing.  I spent a lot of time in the family home when they lived on Basin Street and have many good memories of those days. I can still see Sak smile and hear him laugh.

I'm so sorry to hear of David's passing. During his time working evenings at the Cherokee Nation David became a dear friend to his coworkers as well as myself. Always uplifting and encouraging, his absents alone saddened the workplace instantly.
David's friendship was truly a blessing.
May he rest in peace. Till we meet again my friend.
