Donald “Don” Edgar Chambers was born on February 3rd, 1939, in Sapulpa, OK, the son of Elvies Edgar and Alta May (Porter) Chambers. He was to join his six brothers at home, Frederick, Ralph, Harold, Avery, Forrest, and Royce. He attended school in Sapulpa, but grew weary of all the studies and decided to help support his family instead. He became a truck driver and mechanic, and would pursue this occupation all of his adult life. On August 18th, 1958, he married the love of his life and his best friend, Ruby Arlie Sheppard. They enjoyed every moment they had in life together. This loving union was to last until Ruby’s passing in 2006, and together, they raised a family of four children, Dwayne, Sharon, Linda, and Randell. As a youngster, Don had demonstrated his ability to put an engine on a bicycle, and assemble anything from leftover parts. He and his brothers developed daredevil spirit by swimming Pole Cat Creek when it flooded. Don was a man of honor, his word meant what he said and he expected the same from others. He was ornery and had a great sense of humor, really enjoyed shooting the breeze with his friends and family. He served on the board of the Caney Cemetery Association and helped start the Welling Fire Department. He loved to spend time at the dirt tracks, acting as pit crew, helping his grandson Tyler race. As he grew older, he liked to travel with his family across the United States. He had been everywhere except Alaska, his favorite of all places being Hawaii. He loved the ocean and the people, and was planning a return visit there this year. Don and Ruby were so very proud of their grandchildren and all their accomplishments. Don was always there for his family, he was the kind of man that always saw to the needs of others long before he ever worried about his own. He was kind and generous to a fault. A Christian by faith, Don was called home from his labors on June 16th, 2016 in Tulsa, OK with his family by his side. Don was 77 years old.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Ruby, all six of his brothers, and three grandchildren, Keith Parnell, Kelly Parnell, and Dana Brackett.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Dwayne Chambers and wife Arlene of Welling, OK, Sharon Parnell and husband Mitch of Shady Grove, OK, Linda Chambers of Welling, OK, and Randell Chambers of Greenwood, AR.
