Don was a true craftsman, and worked as a trim carpenter, mainly on exclusive properties in and around Tulsa, He also worked as a photographer, bartender, real estate agent, bread maker and exotic pet store owner.
He enjoyed all things artistic. Definitely a music man, his favorite form being art rock, Don loved to play the drums and rock out with his friends. He had a passion for comedy, and believed that if you couldn’t laugh at yourself, what was the point of it all?
Don lived in tune with nature, and was fascinated by the cosmos. He adored animals, and preferred them to people. He has an appreciation for education, and wished that everyone had the opportunity to be engaged in activities that moved them.
Don will be remembered for his amazing strength during the last decade of his life. After being rear-ended by a texting driver traveling 70 mph, his life was a living hell. The health system failed him at every turn, primarily denying him MRIs on a regular basis. Even though he took his own life, we know he is at rest now, without pain.
Donald Hammond is survived by his life partner of twenty years, Angela Elliston, his big brother Ronald Hammond and wife Cheryl, nieces Alicia Sharpe and Kirsten Graham, and two feline children, Dandi and Mr. Pink.
No services to be held, per his wishes.
