Douglas McCarter was born on December 20th, 1956, in Tahlequah, OK the son of Louis and Jessie Mae (Stover) McCarter. He was raised with three brothers and four sisters, Calvin, Joann, Dewayne, Jackie Dean, Janet, Janice and Jennifer. He was raised in the Rocky Ford Community, a close-knit community where neighbor knows neighbor and likes them! In his younger days, he loved playing basketball and baseball. He attended school at Oaks Mission School graduating from Oaks in 1975. The following year found him enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a combat engineer, training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He was honorably discharged on December 13th, 1978, at Ft. Bliss, TX. He returned to the Green Country area and began life in Law Enforcement, finally ending his career in Salina, OK. He loved people and loved to tease and joke around. He kept up with his friends and family on Facebook and at family dinners. He possessed a real ornery streak and liked to joke around. In 2007, he married Annette Hogner in Eureka Springs, AR. They raised their families together and raised a granddaughter, Miah, along with his daughter, Ashley Nicole McCarter as well as stepdaughter, Michelle Stamps. A Christian by faith, he attended the New Mission Baptist Church in Rocky Ford. He passed from this life on February 11, 2025, at the Muskogee VA. He was 68 years old and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie Stover and Mary (Cummings) Stover and Joe McCarter and wife Mary (Drywater) McCarter. He also joins his mother, father and brothers and sisters, Louis and Jessie Mae (Stover) McCarter and Calvin McCarter, Joann Fields, and Jackie Dean McCarter.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Annette McCarter of the home as well as his children, Ashley Nicole McCarter of Oklahoma, Miah Estephanie Saban of the home and stepdaughter Michelle Stamps and companion Dusty of Highfil, AR. He leaves his brother and sisters, Dewayne McCarter and wife Vickie of Tahlequah, OK, and Janet Birdcheek and husband Lex of Henrietta, Janice McCarter of Tahlequah and Jennifer McCarter of Tahlequah. He is survived by his grandchildren, Miah McCarter-Saban of the home, Chloe Stamps of Highfil, AR and Cole Grimmett of Stilwell, OK. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
