Edmond Henson, or Ed to his friends and family, was born on October 24th, 1952 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Looney and Sakie (Bread) Henson. Ed worked for the Ford Company in Kansas City, before receiving an opportunity to drive buses for big names such as Shenandoah, Joe Nichols and Troy Aikman. After his career in transportation, he worked at Midwestern and Northeastern State University, then he began work at Simmons in Decatur, AR. When he wasn’t working, he loved to play slow pitch softball with his team, the Misfits, singing karaoke and often played in local pool tournaments. More than anything, he cherished his time with family, especially if there was a home cooked meal involved. One thing is for sure, Ed loved to eat. His favorite of all was pork chops, fried potatoes and onions, brown beans, fry bread and some warm apple pie. Everyone looked forward to their gatherings were they could have one of Ed’s pecan pies. He made the best pecan pie from scratch, taking time to place every pecan just right. If there were ever any functions or occasion, you could expect he would have a homemade pecan pie for you. Though a bit hard headed at times, he had a great sense of humor and loved to bring joy and laughter to those around him. He was always cutting up, joking and telling his famous stories. Ed was a member of Little Rock Church in Locust Grove, OK. He looked forward to being asked to sing. He attended regularly until his health would no longer allow him to. On October 31st, 2023, his Savior called him to his eternal home at the age of 71 years old.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Johnny Collins, Arch Henson and Nelson Henson, one sister, Lucille Henson-Soap, one niece Sue Collins and three nephews, Stanley “Duke” Soap, Jeffrey "Tank" Collins, and Lawton Collins.
Those left to remember him include his son, Cherokee Henson and daughter, Jade Henson-Budder, both of Tahlequah, OK. His legacy lives on through his five grandchildren, Tyson Henson, Jaden “Choogie Boy” Gann, Ember Budder, Jeraniah Budder and Baby T who is on the way, nieces, Carla Collins, Paula “Denk” Soap, Rachel Soap-Gregory, Corie Soap, Casey Eikenbary, Gina Eikenbary, and Melissa Collins, Marilyn Henson-Condit, Tracy Condit, nephews, John Eikenbary and Stephen “Pete” Soap along with many other friends and loved ones.
