Edward Eugene Carney I , who also went by Ed or Sonny to his family and friends, was born on August 27th, 1942 in Cassville, MO, the son of Harold and Verleda (Rabe) Carney. He was raised with four brothers and six sisters, Roger, Dale, Doyle, Dwayne, Marcelle, Janice, Doris, Kathy, Priscilla and Barbara. He graduated from Oaks High School in 1960 and attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah later in life. He boasted about being the “old man on campus.” He would meet his best friend and the love of his life, Oweta Truitt, in September 1963. They married on June 6th, 1964 in Neosho, MO. Together they would raise a family of five children, Angela, Edward II, Timothy, Joseph and Jesse. He worked as a Beverage Distribution Person, and was lovingly referred to as the “The Pop Man,’ driving for Love Bottling, Pepsi, Double Cola, RC, and 7Up. He loved reminiscing and sharing stories about the “pop” business. Whenever he had a little spare time, he was a gifted artist and loved to create wildlife art. Ed was fond of travel and also liked meeting up with friends at the casino. There was nothing he liked better than a little hunting and fishing. He had an infectious laugh and a grin that always made you wonder what he was up to. He possessed the ability to make people around him laugh and see the lighter side of life, even when his heart was broken. The best part of his life was any time spent with his children and grandchildren. He also adored his wife and children and always made time for them. He lost his beloved Oweta and she was buried at Mt. Zion in 2018. Ed spent as much time as possible with this family, and loved receiving visitors and going to visit family. He passed from this life on September 9th, 2021 in Tulsa. He was 79 years old and will be greatly missed.
Ed is preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother and father, three brothers, Dale, Doyle, Dwayne, four sisters, Doris, Kathy, Priscilla and Barbara, and two grandsons Steven and Daniel.
