Ella Mae Blackfox-Foreman was born on August 11th, 1935 in Delaware County, OK, in the family home, the daughter of Johnathan and Ella (Fencer) Blackfox. She grew up with five brothers, Fox, Jim, Kenneth, Leroy, and JD Blackfox. They were a loving and fun family, always looking after each other and keeping up with their activities. She worked as a Sanitation Technician for over 25 years. She was proud of her work and loved the people she met from day to day. The job title she cherished the most was the loving mom and grandma (granny) of her family, seven daughters and two sons. She has two children that consist of five generations of lineage. She was always in the kitchen and this woman could cook, her chicken and dumplings , fry bread and kanuchi were the best! The music was always playing in the background and it was likely Elvis Presley. There was nothing better than having her grandchildren headed to the creek at Rocky Ford for an afternoon of swimming, and then the picnic after. She was stern and expected her children to try their very best, and her protective nature was legendary in the family. She was a strong woman who knew her mind and expressed her thoughts freely, yet was kind and compassionate to everyone. She felt it was expected of her to look out for her fellow man, and she selflessly looked after everyone who came into her life. Ella Mae was a proud Cherokee woman and her heritage was something she cherished dearly. Her first language was Cherokee and she constantly kept on her grandchildren to learn their Cherokee language. With the passing of her husband Isaac Foreman, she attended the Oaks Senior Citizen and Cherokee Nation Elders traveling and enjoying fellowship with her many friends. She was a Baptist by faith and a member of New Green Baptist Church, and attended gospel singings at a wide variety of churches. Ella was usually in the company of the “Golden Girls”, Polly, Betty and Frances, and together they would travel all over green country to church and their events. The Lord called this strong, spirited loving mother, grandmother and aunt, home from all her labors on May 5th, 2021 in Broken Arrow, surrounded by the family she lived for all these years. Ella was 85 years old.
Ella is preceded in death by her grandparents, Sam and Susie (Snell) Blackfox and George and Emma (Cochran) Fencer. She has joined her mother and father, her daughters, Georgia Buck and Emma Russell, all of her brothers, two son in-laws, Rickie Tindall and William Russell, daughter-in-law Rowena Foreman, four great-great grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She lives on in her children, Nora Douglas and husband Ray of Tulsa, Velma Blossom and husband Jerry of Chouteau, Ivan Foreman of Chouteau, Ida Tindall of Twin Oaks, Johnny Foreman of Broken Arrow, Darlene Foreman of Tahlequah, OK, and Patricia Foreman of Tulsa, OK. Her lesson in life and the love she shared lives on in her 33 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
