Evelyn Sue (Scott) Garoutte was born on January 15th, 1945, in Bunch, OK, the eighth and youngest child of Tom and Pearlie Scott. She grew up around Barber and Bunch. Evelyn attended school at Cave Springs and graduated from Tenkiller High School in 1963. She spent much of her adult life around Muldrow and Caney, OK. Evelyn worked at the Canning Tomato Factory in Caney. She worked at the Hill Top Truck Stop and Hale’s Drive Inn in Muskogee; and finally the Coburn Eye Plant while living in Muskogee.
When she first turned 21, she married Will Stufflebean and they divorced a few years later. Evelyn then met and married Alan Garoutte. They were married for 13 years when they divorced.
Evelyn moved to Independence, Missouri in 1986 where she worked as a custodian at a hotel and finally at St. Mary’s Hospital as a custodian until she retired at the age of 62.
Evelyn’s great passion in her retirement was gardening. She spent countless hours growing her flowers and vegetables all around the outside of her house. She took serious pride in sharing her home-grown flower seeds with Daisy and Mabel. She found peace in canning and/or freezing most of her vegetables.
