Freda Jan Wright Adams was born on May 18th, 1931 in Clinchco, VA, the daughter of Basil and Madge (Chilton) Wright. She grew up with one sister, Charlene or Charlie to the family. She graduated high school at Central High School in Tulsa, OK, then enlisted in the US Navy, serving as a WAVE in the Administrative Department, and serving the distinction of becoming a Pistol Expert while in the Navy. She served honorably from 1951 until 1954. She married Roy Lee Adams in May of 1979 in Tulsa, OK, and together, they enjoyed many years of hobbies and watching the kids and grandkids grow. She worked in the Administrative and Payroll Disbursement for Sinclair Gas and Oil in Tulsa. When she wasn’t working, Freda was one of the founding members of the Tulsa Bass Belles. Then she continues her love of fishing with her dear friend, Christine Houston, where they were the founding members and some of the most recognized names of the Bass N Gals, that fished the early women’s national circuits. She was never far behind Roy on a hunting trip and brought in her fair share of deer, quail and pheasants. Whenever they had the chance, they were packing up the Winnebago and heading out to discover some unknown part of the USA they hadn’t seen yet. When they had that done, it was time to seek out new destinations in Europe and other countries. Then there was her love of golf, she traveled all over Texas, Arkansas, and any place that had a tournament going, she loved the game. She was the proud mother of her daughter, Jan, and step mother to Larry and Terri. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Eric, Cody and Jenna, and followed all of their endeavors with pride and her full support. At home, she was affectionately referred to as “Sarge”, as she ran a tight ship and all the activities that went with it. She was a strong and determined personality, never allowed herself to back away from a challenge. She was spirited, and had a smile that would light up a room. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and always made the effort to make others feel welcome around her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. A Baptist by faith, she and Roy were long time members of the Park Hill Baptist Church and also the Keys Southern Baptist Church, and all the people they attended with were like family. Her health began to fail her and she made the move to St. Simeon’s along with Roy. Even then, she put her best foot forward in every day she shared with Roy. The Lord called this wonderful spirited woman home from her labors on December 30th, 2017 with her loved ones by her side. She was 86 years old. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
