Graveside services for Ray Eugene “Gene” Nottingham will be held on Monday, August 13th, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Tahlequah City Cemetery Gazebo with Pastor Ron Kirk officiating. His visitation will be held on Sunday, August 12th, 2018 beginning at 2:00 PM until 6:00 Pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah. Gene Nottingham was born on July 9th, 1942 in Tahlequah, OK at home. He was born the son of Virgil and Della Nottingham. There were three brothers and two sisters, Jerry, Bill, Harold, Joyce and Linda. He attended school in Eureka. After school he began his career as an auto mechanic, and later started his own shop, Gene’s Repair in Anthony, KS. Gene retired from the shop in 2004 and moved to Kaw City. He started a mowing business which he continued until his death. He was the proud father of Alan, Cindy, Scott and Kelly. On August 13th, 1992, he married Jan Buck in Benton, AR. Gene was an outdoors man by heart and loved to raise and train bird dogs, German Short Hair and Brittany Spaniels. It didn’t matter if it was quail, pheasant, or deer, Gene enjoyed hunting. He enjoyed fishing for crappie and catfish as well, and there was always time to take the family boating and camping. Gene and Jan would travel around from Colorado to Missouri, Arkansas to Canada, and even visited Yellowstone. Card games were a favorite especially Pitch, and he enjoyed bowling on teams at the Anthony Bowling Alley. Gene loved people, and was always teasing and telling jokes. He went the extra mile to help people. He was loving, generous and kind to everyone he met. Gene was fiercely loyal to his wife and children, any time spent in their company was a good day for Gene. A Christian by faith, he attended Shidler First Christian Church. On Saturday, August 4th, 2018, Jan passed away. The Lord called Gene to join her in their eternal home on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018 in Ponca City, OK. He was 76 years old. Gene will be greatly missed by his many family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers, Jerry and Harold, maternal grandparents, David and Nancy Nottingham, and paternal grandparents, Ad and Ida Nottingham.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Alan Ray Nottingham and partner Sean Hammerle of Santiago, Panama, Cindy Nottingham of Terrell, TX, Jeffery Scott Patton and wife Joy of Kaw City, OK, and Kelly Ray Buck and wife Angela of Kingfisher, OK. He leaves one brother and two sisters, Joyce Adcock of Muskogee, OK, Bill Nottingham of Houston, TX, and Linda McNeil and husband Bill of Hulbert, OK. Gene will live on in his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Amanda Bratcher of Yukon, Jeremy Buck and wife Shayla of Loyal, OK, and Dalton Buck of Kingfisher, OK. The great grandchildren include Sierra Bratcher, Hailey Bratcher, and Gemmah Buck, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
