Harry Tyon entered this life on February 8, 1948, in Talihina, OK, the son of Harry Norbert and Bertha May (Jones) Tyon. He was one of five children to bless the household. As a young man, he married Mary Ross (now Merry Loman), with whom he had one child, Warren Tyon, in 1970. Their only grandchild, Hunter Tyon, was born in 2001. The couple divorced after a short marriage, but remained lifelong friends. After high school and some time in college, Harry found his calling as a truck driver and hit the road. He never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone. He really enjoyed telling a good story that would captivate his audience and entertain for hours. Always a lover of music, he especially enjoyed the 50’s and 60’s era that gave us Jerry Lee Lewis, At the Hop, and great rock/blues saxophonists like Ace Cannon, Boots Randolph, and Bill Black. Creedence Clearwater Revival was always a favorite, too, a sentiment shared by his son and grandson. Harry took the time needed to learn to play the saxophone. He was an incredibly talented man that was always very close to his family - favorite memories include teaching his son and grandson how to growl the sax. When he had to get off the truck due to his weakening legs, he moved in with his son and family and re-entered college. Here, he became a web-master and designed a highly unique and creative website for Oklahoma Sooners Football through hand coding. In these last 18 years he was very close to his grandson, Hunter Tyon, and played a crucial part in his upbringing. Harry and Hunter wrote a story about a wolf named Hairy Wolf over several years when Hunter was very small, an endlessly creative tale that Harry’s son said could only have been written by “the minds of Dad and that little five-year-old.” Once in Alabama, he had his own house in the family’s front yard, where he lived with his beloved miniature pincher-doxen-chihuahua mix, Rambo. When he became bed-bound in 2016 by an unforeseen illness, his brother, Bruce Tyon, came and remained at his side for the last years of his life. Throughout this period Harry lived at home and stayed a source of thoughtful advice and great company for his family. He spoke frequently of his family in Oklahoma, Colorado and across the country. Harry was a Baptist by faith and on October 15, 2021, the Lord took this good and faithful servant home for his eternal rest.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Oliver C. Tyon and Robert C. Tyon, one brother-in-law, JD Hooper and one niece, Tanya Hooper.
Left to cherish his memory include his son, Warren Tyon of the home, one brother, Bruce Tyon of Tahlequah, OK, and one sister, Twyla L. (Tyon) Hooper also of Tahlequah, OK.
