

Funeral services for Henry Holmes will be held on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Reed-Culver Chapel with visitation on Tuesday, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Barber Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
Pallbearers for Henry include Jeremy Poafpybitty, Jory Poafpybitty, Christopher Holmes, Joshua Holmes, Dale Bolin, and Bo James. Honorary pallbearers include Gilbert Holmes, Aaron Henson, and Curtis Glory.
Henry Holmes was born on Christmas Day in 1926, one of the eleven children of Pigeon and Bertha (Rattlinggourd) Holmes. He married Rebecca Jones in Stilwell, OK on July 1st, 1968. This union was blessed with 44 years of companionship and a household of eight children. Henry made his living as a landscaper at Greenleaf Nursery for many years. He was blessed with a green thumb and could make plants grow beautifully, both at work and at home. He was a hardworking family man. He was a quiet, unassuming man that appreciated life, just the way it was. The most important aspect of his life was his family. He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved being outdoors in nature. When he had a little free time, he liked to watch wrestling on TV or spend a few quiet minutes outdoors in his flower garden. A Baptist by faith, he was a member of the Sycamore Baptist Church in the Barber Community. The Lord called Henry to his eternal home on Friday, January 18th, 2013 at his home in Cookson, OK, with his loved ones gathered by his side. He was 86 years old. He will be greatly missed for his love and friendship to all knew him.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jim, Ned, and Jackson Holmes, as well as four sisters, his twin sister, Cindie Brackett, Helen Ridge, Sarah Holmes, and Virgie Holmes, and one grandson, Rick Holmes.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Becky of the home, and his children, Manuel Holmes and wife Allene of Dry Creek, Richard and Linda Holmes of Dry Creek, Joyce James and husband Pete of Salina, OK, Evelyn Adair of Conroe, TX, Henry Holmes Jr. of Tahlequah, Mildred and Dean Bolin of Dry Creek, Tony Jones and Annah of Rocky Mountain Community, and Bonnie Cashion of Tahlequah, OK. He leaves two brother and two sisters, Mary Nofire of Welling, Lucille Randolph of Sallisaw, Dave and Janie Holmes of Hungry Mountain Community, and Virgil and Gelina Holmes of Hungry Mountain Community. Henry’s legacy lives on in his 24 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
