Janice Lynn Armenta Archer was born on May 23rd, 1954 in San Juan County, New Mexico, the daughter of Max and Susie (Vialpando) Armenta. She was raised in a home with five brothers and two sisters, Henry, Frankie, Max, Audrey, Gerald, Angie, and Freddie. She grew up in New Mexico around Farmington. After she graduated from high school, she began working for the Police Department in Albuquerque as a dispatcher. It was while she was here she met and married Jerel Archer. Together they raised a family of two daughters and one son, Crystal, Susie and Jason. The family returned to the Green Country and besides being a wife and mother, Janice began her college studies and received her first of two Bachelor’s degrees, in Sociology in 1995, and then obtained her second in Education soon after. She began her teaching career at Cherokee Elementary and then taught Spanish at Sequoyah High School for over 20 years.
She was patient, kind, very supportive, and had a sense of humor that her children and students as well as the adults enjoyed. When she wasn’t working, she could be found working in her yard, and decorating with enough solar lights to pass for a runway. She was always sewing, her children’s clothes, doll clothes, curtains, and adding bling to her jackets and clothes. Any chance to spend time with her children and grandchildren was the best. She liked to gather her family for some of her famous Enchilada Casserole, Sopapillas, Tortillas, Green Chili, Guacamole, and Millionaire’s Pie for dessert. She also shared her cooking with her friends during the holidays. No one left her table hungry. Where ever she went, Janice ran into someone she knew or who knew her, and the quick run to the store took a little while longer. She wanted her daughters to learn the violin, and made sure the opportunity was there. She was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church, where she loved teaching Sunday School and her students thought she was the best. Her love for the Lord showed with every smile she gave, every bible verse she handed out and every child she taught. She was a practicing herbalist and loved natural healing, using natures cures every chance she got. She was very accomplished at anything she set her mind to do, and did it with great love. Her health began to fade, and the Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her many labors on February 18th, 2024 in Tulsa, OK, surrounded by the family she loved. She was 69 years old and will be greatly missed by all those knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and father, and her brothers Frankie and Freddie.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband since March 26th, 1977, Jerel Archer of the home in Tahlequah. She also leaves her three children, Crystal Archer of San Antonio, TX, Susie Archer of Cincinnati, OH, and Jason Archer and wife Jennifer of Tahlequah, OK. She leaves her three brothers and two sisters, Henry Armenta and wife Gail of Farmington, NM, Max Armenta of Farmington, NM, Audrey Armenta and husband Leo of Farmington, NM, Gerald Armenta of Phoenix, AZ, and Angie Armenta of Farmington, NM. She lives on in her two grandchildren, Jadilynn Archer and Juleeann Archer both of Tahlequah, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of students, friends and loved ones too numerous to name..
A Celebration of the Life of Janice Lynn Armenta Archer will be held on Friday, March 15th, 2024 at 12:00 PM noon, at Reed-Culver Chapel with Father David Medina officiating. The family will receive guests at St. Brigid Catholic Activity Center for a time of food and fellowship following the service.
Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
