

Proctor,OK- Funeral services for Jim Sams were held on Thursday, December 29th, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Reed-Culver Chapel with Reverend Billy Hendrix officiating. Jim was laid to rest at the family cemetery in Hillard, in Bond,Kentucky.
Jim Sams was born on May 23rd, 1938 in Jackson County, Kentucky, the son of Robert Lee and Callie (Carpenter) Sams. He attended school until his father passed away at a young age. Jim worked at home to help his mama make ends meet. He worked at a variety of jobs including steel worker for Wallace Metal Company in Indiana. He moved to Oklahoma in 1973 along with his children. When he wasn’t working, Jim could be found doing the yardwork, fishing at the local fishing hole, or spending the afternoon working on his trucks, keeping them in modified stock condition. Jim loved his children and adored his grandchildren. Every grandchild was precious to him. Jim was a Christian by faith and lived his faith daily. He read his Bible and played guitar and mandolin, a gift from God that he readily shared with others. He spread the Gospel news in nursing homes playing for the residents and anyplace he had to share his gift. Jim never met a stranger. He went out of his way to help his fellow man with whatever was his to give. He was there to help the stranded motorist or share a work load. He was Holiness and attended the Prayer House Church. Jim’s health was affected by years of hard work and his health began to fail him. The Lord called Jim home from his labors on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2011 at his home in Proctor with his loving family at his side. Jim was 73 years old. Jim leaves a legacy of charity, love, and understanding for his family and friends alike. He will be greatly missed.
Jim is preceded in death by his Mom, Dad, six brothers and sisters and six half brothers and sisters as well as one nephew, Dale Adair and one son-in-law, Leslie Vance.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Teresa Sams of Proctor, OK, Jimmy and Shirley Sams of Tahlequah, OK, Eddie Sams and wife Rhonda of Elizabethtown, KY, Linda McKee and Benjamin Brewer of the home in Richmond, IN and Peggy McGee and husband Jeffery of Sallisaw, OK. His legacy lives on in his seventeen grandchildren, Kelli Johnson, Billie Vann, Selisha Vance, Leslie Dale Vance ,Charles Shade, Bobby Shade, Angie Shade, Bradley Shade, Deena Shade, Jordan Sams, Mark McKee, Preston McKee, Beth McKee, Thyla McKee, Jacob McKee, April Sams and Stacy Sams as well as twenty seven great grandchildren, , special friends Larry and Lucille Oosahwee and a host of friends and loved ones.
