Jimmie Dale Squirrell Sr., was born on January 21, 1949 in Claremore, OK, the son of Watt and Minnie (Christie) Squirrell. He went on to work for Oaks-Mission School and then for 38 dedicated years, he was a maintenance technician for Oaks-Mission Indian Center. He took great pride in his work, knowing that the care and upkeep he provided helped create a safe and welcoming place for Native American children.
Jimmie had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and foraging for wild onions and mushrooms. Whether he was playing horseshoes, crafting Native American stickball sticks and blowguns, or browsing antique guns and equipment, he found joy in simple pleasures and traditional skills. A proud gun collector, he appreciated history and craftsmanship in every piece he owned.
More than anything, Jimmie treasured his family. Jimmie was united in marriage to Sally Ann Vann, and together they built a loving home, raising six children, Billy, Jimmy, James, Erin, Amanda and Crystal. His grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Dudu,” were the light of his life. He looked forward to every opportunity to spend time with them, sharing stories, laughter, and lessons. He also enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO, especially to visit the Sight & Sound Theatre. A devout Christian, Jimmie was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Jay. He was always ready to share a word about God and looked for every opportunity to tell others about his faith. He was the go-to man for cooking hog meat at the Oaks and Rocky Ford gospel singings, serving others with joy and fellowship. Known for his playful spirit, Jimmie loved to joke around and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
On Thursday, February 19, 2026, with family by his side, Jimmie was called home to meet his Lord and Savior at the age of 77 years old. He will be remembered for his servant’s heart, his unwavering faith, his love of the outdoors, and the laughter he brought to those around him.
He was welcomed at the gates of Glory by his beloved wife, Sally Ann Squirrell, parents, Watt and Minnie Squirrell, one brother, Walter Squirrell, four sisters, Lela Mae Cummings, Ruby Beaver, Maxine Vann, and Mary Jane Henry and two nephews, Pete Fisher and Arch Beaver.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Billy Vann and wife Teresa Davis of Oaks, OK, Jimmy Squirrell Jr. and wife Roberta of Stilwell, OK, James Squirrell of Oaks, OK, and Erin Squirrell and wife Regan Bunch of Oaks, OK along with two daughters, Amanda Ballou and husband Bobby and Crystal Vann and husband Gordon, both of Oaks, OK. His legacy and love lives on through his 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and other friends and the many lives he touched through his kindness and devotion.
