NEWSPAPER OBITUARY FOR JOHNNY HARRISON BALLARD Tahlequah, OK- Funeral services for Johnny Harrison Ballard will be held on Friday, March 15th, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Kevin Webster officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14th, 2013 from noon until 8:00 PM at Reed-Culver. Interment will take place at Park Hill Cemetery in Park Hill, OK. Services are under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah, OK. Pallbearers for Johnny include Cody Ballard, Jason Hijazi, Michael Robbins, Chris Ballard, Matt Ballard, and Brandon Welsh. Johnny Harrison Ballard was born on October 4th, 1947 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of John Edward and Lula Catherine (Jones) Ballard. He attended school in Tahlequah. When Johnny turned 16, his Mother helped him to provide the paperwork necessary for Johnny to enlist in the US Army. Johnny served from 1963 until 1965 in Louisiana. His family was having a difficult time financially making ends meet, so Johnny returned home after his first enlistment to help his mother with the family expenses. Johnny has worked his entire working career as a carpenter and in construction. He was gifted and loved creating things with his hands. Whenever he wasn’t working, he loved time spent out doors and in nature. There wasn’t an animal that Johnny wasn’t curious about. He liked time spent fishing, camping, boating, and shooting on the range. He enjoyed traveling and really liked Alaska and the Caribbean. Enjoyed walking with his canine companions, a dachshund names “Grasshopper”, “Maximillian “ the Doberman, and “Caesar “ and “Company”, his two favorite Irish Setters. Johnny always felt responsible for his family, and worked tirelessly to make sure they had what they needed. He was the proud father of two sons and two daughters, he loved any time spent with his John, Cody, Lisa and Beth. He loved time spent with his brothers and sisters and all the family gathered around for a Sunday Dinner , like Mama always made. He was quiet in nature, strong of body and thoughtful. He was always there when he was needed. Johnny left for his eternal home on Tuesday, March 12th, 2013 in Tahlequah, OK with his family by his side. He was 65 years old. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Johnny is preceded in death by his father, mother, one sister, Laraina Eden, and one brother, Miller Ballard. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Lisa Ballard and husband John of Tulsa, OK, John Ballard of Hominy, Cody Ballard and wife Lorena of Edmond, OK, and Beth Ballard of Preston, OK. His brothers and sisters include Alva Ballard and wife Teresa of Tahlequah, OK, Anna James of Claremore, OK, Barbara Ziyada of Keys, OK, Rosa “Windy” Ballard of Tahlequah, OK and Debbie Davis and husband Les of Bixby, OK. His legacy lives on in his four grandchildren, Nicole, Kirsti, John, Corey, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
