Early in the morning on Thursday, August 19, 2026, Joseph Wilson Cummings (Joe) left us to be with the Lord. He was 81 years of age. Born to Lydia and Sampson Cummings on January 16, 1945 in Oaks, Oklahoma.
Joe attended Oaks Mission School and after high school, he joined the Army. Joe served during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Korea. After serving in the military, Joe became a cement contractor and skilled carpenter and married the love of his life and had a son. Eventually, Joe remarried and had another son. Even though his relationships with neither son remained intact, Joe loved them and always spoke of them fondly.
Joe loved living a simple life. He loved caring for his animals. They were his family and he treated them as such. He enjoyed his black coffee and walking around in his shorts, no shirt, and no shoes. But when it was time to go out, he wanted the best starched shirts and pressed jeans.
Joe was also a true patriot. He loved America. Talking politics and solving the world’s problems were a favorite pastime of his. He was also a “foodie” before that was even a trend, and in his mid sixties, Joe went to culinary school and became a chef at the Hard Rock Casino in Catoosa, OK.
In his seventies, Joe gave his life to Christ, and attended a Baptist church in Tahlequah, OK. While attending church, he met a lovely lady, Sharon, and together they became inseparable until her death in 2025.
Joe is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his nine siblings, and his lovely friend. He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
