LaVurle (Hogner) Hawkins was born on September 20th, 1939 in Sapulpa, OK, the daughter of Ned and Zelma Hogner. She was raised with one brother, Donald and a twin sister, LaVene. After school, she worked various professions such as a beautician in California and in catering. She was blessed with two sons, Derek and Ned before meeting the love of her life, Donald “Sonny” Hawkins. They were married November 9th, 2006 and have shared many adventures together. They traveled many areas of Missouri, Arkansas and all over Oklahoma seeing southern gospel groups. LaVurle didn’t miss a chance to eat out, especially if they served up some great catfish. She was always up to stop off at the local yard sale or thrift stores to see what gospel music or religious books she could find. When they were home, she was found busy in the kitchen, cooking up her famous pozole or BBQ ribs. LaVurle was a great cook and enjoyed sitting around the table with the family. She loved to cheer on Fresno State, watch some good gospel music or old westerns like Gun Smoke and Bonanza on TV. Beadwork and different arts and crafts were among her other talents. She would make the most beautiful bead necklaces, floral arrangements and colorful wreaths. LaVurle had a way of lighting up a room with her smile and laugh. There was never a time you wasn’t laughing and cutting up with those around her. She truly loved life and loved her family. This good and faithful servant was called to her heavenly home on August 8th, 2022 in Tahlequah, OK at the age of 82.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those that have gone on before her include her parents and twin sister, LaVene Hogner.
She will be remembered by her husband, Donald “Sonny” Hawkins and two sons, Derek Essman and Ned Essman of the home, one brother, Donald Hogner and wife Ramona of Clovis, CA.
