Leslie DeWayne “Les” Gourd was born on July 2nd, 1955 in Tahlequah, Ok, the son of Jonas and Vivian (Dreadfulwater) Gourd. He grew up with four brothers and five sisters, Keith, James, Steven, Rudy, Vera, Pamela, Frances, Tina, and Jennifer. He attended and graduated from Hulbert High School. Growing up, you never found Les without his guitar, he was a gifted musician. He appeared many times on the John Chick Show. Every family gathering and every birthday from that time on was when the guitar came out to help with the celebrating. Les could shoot pool, and he won many trophies for. He attended the OSU Institute of Technology and graduated with honors in Math and Drafting. He would then continue on and receive two certificates from Platt College in Math and Drafting, finishing with a 4.0 GPA. He earned his living in Landscaping, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. When he wasn’t working, he was with the people he loved most, his family. He loved any chance to gather and share a meal and the day. From holidays to birthday and weddings, he was always ready to go see his family. He always had a joke and you knew he was near when you heard his laughter coming from the room. He liked to spend time with his friends, swapping stories and sharing a laugh or two. It was always happy to get together and watch OU play football, he was an avid fan, or any local sports, especially if was being played by his nieces and nephews! For twenty five years, he shared all of his memorable events and the daily little joys of life with Kay Henson, it was a match made in heaven. Together, they shared life in the yard, raising beautiful vegetables and flowers, and sometimes just sitting in the yard drinking coffee as the sun came up. A Christian by faith, Les was a Baptist. The sun set for Les on February 18th, 2021 in Tahlequah, OK, surrounded by those he loved. He was 65 years old and will be greatly missed by all those lucky enough to have Les in their lives.
Les has gone home to his grandparents, his mother and father, two of his brothers, Steven and Rudy, two nephews, Eli and Russell Gourd, and brother-in-law, Richard Arredondo.
Those left to cherish his memory include his companion, Kay Henson of the home in Hulbert, OK, and his brothers and sisters, Timothy Keith Gourd of Lost city, James Gourd of lost City, Vera Gourd-Newman and husband Benny of Irving, TX, Pamela Gourd of Dallas, TX, Frances Arredondo of Glen Heights, TX, Tina Gourd of Tulsa, and Jennifer Gourd of Glen Heights, TX. He leaves four step grandchildren, Christian Wilson, Cayden Humphrey, Colby Henson and Chance Henson all of Muskogee, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a whole host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
