Cecil Louis Baker, or Louis to his family and friends, passed from this life on Monday, January 15th, 2024 at his home, surrounded by the family that loved him. He was born on May 3rd, 1959 in Hollister, CA, the son of Thurman Jefferson and Mary Louise (Byrd) Baker. He grew up in a household with two brothers and three sisters, Donna, Margie, Jimmie, John, and Mae. He grew up in the Oaks Community, where he loved fishing and camping, especially around the Lake Hudson area in Salina. He tried golfing and soon found himself on the green every chance he got. He graduated from Kansas High School and then enlisted into the United States Army. Upon completing his time in the service, he returned to the Kansas area and married. It was here he became the proud father of his daughter Ashley. He adored her and theirs was a loving bond that lasted until his dying breath. He worked at a wide variety of jobs, his last being a welder for Dorssers metal fabricators. When he wasn’t working, he was playing pranks on his family and friends, he had a wicked sense of humor. He liked a good game of Bingo and Monday nights spent watching WWE smackdown. There was his love of OU Sooner football, all night game night with his friends playing cards, going to the community building for community functions, and sitting around the bonfire listening to country music. He loved time spent with his daughter and made a wicked meatloaf for her when she came by. He had a great sense of humor, loved to tease and would go to the ends of the earth to help anyone that needed it. His passing leaves an empty chair that no one else can fill.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John Louis and Lily Maybell Byrd and Cecil and Chloe Baker, his mother and father, two brothers, Jimmie and John Baker, two sisters, Donna Hyde and Margie Peebles, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Those left to celebrate his life include his daughter, Ashley Baker of Oaks, OK, one sister, Mae Baker of Grove, OK, one nephew, Gary Graham of Sallisaw, two nieces, Shaleta Lay of Grove, OK, and Elaina Davis of Maryland.
