Margaret Ann Miller was born on January 7, 1949, in Vallejo, California, the daughter of Orion and Camilla (Underwood) Schmitt. She was raised with three brothers, Mike, Pat and Edward. She attended and graduated from McClain High School in Tulsa, OK. She then continued her education at the University of Oklahoma, receiving her Bachelor of Education. This in turn led to her Master’s in Education from UCO in Edmond, OK, and teaching special education all of her career. She met and married her best friend, Jackson Miller, on July 25, 1980, in Tulsa, OK. They enjoyed 43 years of happiness, love and memories, and raised their son, Anthony Miller. When she wasn’t working, Maggie was usually reading a book, working on a puzzle or doing embroidery. She loved watching OU football and basketball, and traveled many years to Colorado to visit the Rocky Mountains. She was smart, kind to a fault and cared deeply for all her students. She coached a team at the Special Olympics for many years. She had a kind disposition and was practical and down-to-earth. A Catholic by faith, she attended Catholic grade school. Although she was homebound later in life, she received spiritual direction from Father David of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Tahlequah. She had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Maggie also enjoyed time with friends and fellow Catholics, Luke Bruner and David Lawless, who assisted her at home after Jackson’s death, and who brought Bar-B-Que for Saturday lunchtime visits.
When Jackson passed away in 2023, she remained in Tahlequah, OK. The Lord called this wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt home on February 1, 2025, at Tulsa, OK. She was 76 years old. Maggie is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and father, and her beloved husband, Jackson Miller.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Anthony Miller, wife Laura, and grandson Benjamin of Norman, OK. She also leaves three brothers, Mike Schmitt of California, Pat Schmitt and wife Mary of Colorado, and Edward Schmitt and wife Barb of Minnesota. She also leaves many nieces and nephews: Jennifer Struble, Amy Swisher, Molly McKenna, Becky Dujsik, Linda Kniejski, Bobbie Bircher, Nancy Little, Dan Schmitt, Nick Cuaresma, Steve McNac, Larry McNac, Timothy McNac, and Johnny Dale Miller. She leaves two very dear friends, Mary Sierra of Enid, OK and Karen Thomas of Tulsa, OK, as well as many great nieces and nephews, friends, and former students too numerous to list.
The family are particularly grateful to Nancy and Ellis Little and their family, of Tahlequah, OK. Their devotion to Maggie allowed her to remain in her home until her death. They gave countless hours caring for Maggie’s needs, attending doctor appointments and helping with home maintenance. Their faithful watch ensured Maggie’s safety and security.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Memorial services for Margaret “Maggie” Ann (Schmitt) Miller will be conducted at St. Brigid Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Father David Medina officiating. She will then be laid to rest with her husband at Greenleaf Cemetery in Tahlequah, OK. A rosary will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 6:00 PM, at the Parish of Christ the King in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
