Marilyn Frances (Miller) Christie was born on September 26th, 1946 in Tahlequah, Ok, the daughter of William and Nannie (Scott) Miller. She grew up with her brothers, Johnny and Jackson, and her sister, Sallie. There was another brother, Billy Joe who preceded her in passing. In 1956, she and family moved to Los Angeles, California. She graduated high school, got married and had her daughter Nancy. In 1975, she moved back to Oklahoma with her family. She divorced then later met and married Joe Christie Jr. They joined their families on December 31st, 1982 at Greenleaf Baptist Church; together they would raise a family of three sons and four daughters, Nancy, Robert, Tina, Josephine, Daniel, Joe Jr III, and Elizabeth. Marilyn worked for over twenty years as a Procurement Specialist for Cherokee Nation. She loved her job and serving the people. When she wasn’t working, Marilyn was going to a sporting event to support her children and grandchildren. She was a sports enthusiast. She also loved watching the Thunder and the Sooners play. She was always up for a little shopping or a chance to do a little traveling with her sister, and together they went to Niagara Falls, California and all around the USA. Marilyn was honest, straight forward, and had no problems in expressing an opinion. She loved to tease, and had an ornery streak, yet always took the time to help anyone that asked, and had a heart for all her adored grandchildren, she was so very proud of them. She was a member of Elm Prairie Baptist Church and served in the capacity of Sunday School Teacher as well as Secretary. There were the quiet moments that found her working a crossword puzzle and munching on her favorite snacks and See’s candy or watching her cooking shows and Tyler Perry’s Madea. She was happy to spend time with her husband, children and grandchildren all gathered around to share time. Her life was not without adversity, and she had a real fight on her hands with arthritis that crippled her joints, but never her spirit or her determination. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on December 9th, 2017 at her home in Tahlequah, surrounded by those who knew her and loved her best. She was 71 years old. She will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, one son, Robert Joe Christie, one brother, Billy Joe McNac, and her grandparents, Willie and Sally Arch and Sallie Whitewater.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Joe of the home in Tahlequah. She leaves her children, Nancy Little and husband Ellis of Tahlequah, Tina Prieto of Guyman, OK, Josephine Nunez and husband Darwin of Oklahoma City, OK, Daniel Christie and wife Debbie of Tahlequah, Joe Christie III and wife Netta of Tahlequah, and Elizabeth Christie and companion Francisco Martinez of Gainsville, TX. She lives on in her twenty four grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and host of friends and loved ones.
