Martha Jo Benton-Dotson was born on January 22nd, 1937, in Glendale, AZ, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Laura Meninne (Sutton) Benton. She attended school at Hulbert, High School graduating in 1954. She met the love of her life, Eddie Dotson in 1955 and were married on January 19, 1956; although they told everyone their anniversary was January 22nd. Together they enjoyed 44 years together and raised two sons and one daughter, Joel, Jimmy, and Linda. Martha was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her most important part of life was taking care of her husband, children and family. She was a woman that loved life and never took one moment of it for granted. The best part of life for Martha was fixing dinner and celebrating special events with all of her family around her. She loved a chance for everyone to spend an afternoon playing cards or games, and when the weather permitted, she loved to sit outdoors and enjoy the day. Martha was a music lover and enjoyed listening to the oldies hits. She saw a concert with Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, and others. When she had the urge, you would find her dancing, and as she aged, she danced with her walker. Her grandchildren knew they could always get Grandma to split some ice cream or cookies with them as she never lost her sweet tooth. Martha’s children and grandchildren were the joy of her life, everything they accomplished was watched over carefully by Grandma. Traveling the countryside and seeing new sites and meeting new people was always a favorite hobby. When it was cold outside, she liked to watch her favorite shows on TV, like Judge Judy, Judge Wapner, Judge Alex and anyone else presiding over the days dilemmas, and of course she knew the correct answers on Family Fued. A Christian by faith, she read her Bible daily and led her life according to her beliefs. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on March 30th, 2017, in Oklahoma City, OK with her loved ones by her side. Martha was 80 years old. She will be missed for that sweet smile, that wonderful laugh, and all the love she shared with her loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Eddie Dotson in May 2000, one son, Joel Dotson in December 2007, her daughter, Linda Curry in February 2000, and one brother, Paul Ray Benton.
Martha’s memory will be cherished by one son, Jimmy Curry of Edmond, OK and two adored grandchildren, John Curry and wife Chaliena of Tulsa, OK and Lori Jo Curry and fiancé Brad Ryherd both of Edmond, OK. Martha will live on in her four great grandchildren, Shayla Curry, Camryn Curry, Jacob Curry all of Tulsa, OK and Jess Curry of Edmond, OK as well as many cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
