Mary was a homemaker in every sense of the word, and her house was more than just a place, it was home. If you walked through her door, you were fed, cared for, and made to feel like you belonged. She loved sewing, cooking, yard sales, trips to the casino, her wine, and especially collecting cobalt blue glass antiques and miniatures. Everywhere she went, people could not help but notice her beauty, inside and out.
Mary was a breast cancer survivor and one of the toughest women you could ever know. She endured surgery after surgery with strength and grace and rarely let anything bring her down. She faced breast cancer the same way she faced everything in life, with courage, resilience, and determination.
Family was her world. She was “Mom” to many and “Granny” to even more, a title she wore with pride. Her great-great grandson Curtis, whom she helped raise, was her absolute world and brought immeasurable joy to her life in recent years. Many of her nieces and nephews were close to her in age, and she thought of them as siblings and loved each one dearly. She was the biggest fan in the stands at basketball, softball, baseball, and football games, cheering on every child she loved.
In her 40s, Mary went back to school and became certified as a secretary, showing her determination to keep growing and learning. During Leighann’s senior year of high school, she proudly earned the nickname “Hot Rod Momma” for racing to pick up her daughter and her friends for lunch within a 30-minute break.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Hensley; her parents, Walter Scott Adair Sr. and Myrtle Irene West Adair; her son, Charley Jones Jr.; and her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her sons, James Hensley and Donald Hensley Jr.; her daughter, Leighann Quinton; 9 grandchildren, Angie, Jennifer, Candace (Hax Holmes), Billy (McKenzie Settlemyre), Ryan, Bayleigh, Julie, Courtney, and Brittany; 11 great grandchildren, Micah, Kailyn, Carina, Adence, Mason, Amethyst, Juan, Joaquin, Hayleigh Joi, Keegan, and Landon; 3 great-great grandchildren, Curtis, Ned, and Thomas; sister in law Judy Adair; longtime friends Judy Bradley and Ann Winkler; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.
Mary’s legacy is one of love, strength, warmth, and a home that always had room for one more.
