This poem was written by my daughter-in-law Amanda Leaveck, at age 12, when my mother Sharon Louise Downing passed away in 2000. I talked with her yesterday and she said I could share it with the family. I am supposed to change the she's to he's- for Michael, but I have decided to leave the poem as it was written. Michael would like this:
I'm sorry she's passed, but she has not gone.
She is all the words in a pretty song.
She is all the memories you do keep.
She is with you now she does not sleep.
She's the soft fluffy snow on a wintry night...
She's the howling wind that blows a kite.
She is still there in your heart...
Since you love her you will not part.
She is the tingly feeling that warms you up..
She is the joy you feel with a new pup.
She is always there, you need not feel lonely,
She's the feeling little girls feel when they get a pony.
She is never worn out, always new.
I'm sure she'd want you to know that she'll always love you.

I remember, and always had fun, riding horses at the ranch with Mike. Those are always good memories.
All my prayers for the family at this time! XOXO

I should have shared something more personal. I loved hearing Mike sing and play his guitar. And he was a wonderful artist. I wish he had painted more! He had a heart for those less fortunate and truly loved the Lord. His laugh made everyone around him laugh. He was very brave and had a heart of gold. Of course he loved hunting and being outdoors in general. I'll miss his beautiful eyes and his hugs!! R.I.P. brother. I love you.

When I hated celery and he held me down and made me try it, even with peanut butter on it. Lol

I am so deeply saddened at the loss of my cousin Michael Downing; I have life long memories of him and from early childhood Mike was loved by all in the family; I remember him as a little boy singing Rawhide when that TV series was popular and how delighted all were to watch him sing and dance to it; later in life distance kept me from seeing him but of late we had been in e-mail communication and he was sharing some of his dad's book with me to read and comment on. I know Michael loved family deeply and all loved him.
I'm saddened for his sisters and other relatives and know well God has Michael, as the song goes, "in his hands". God Bless you Michael. You are missed.
