

Rocky Mountain Community, OK- Funeral services for Mildred Mellowbug Smith will be held on Thursday, April 26th, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home with ------officiating. Interment will follow at Bill Batt Cemetery at Rocky Ford Community, OK. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 25th, 2012 from noon until 8:00 p.m. at Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
Mildred Mellowbug-Smith was born on October 27th, 1934 in Claremore, OK the daughter of Hickey and Annie (Christie) Scott. Mildred attended and graduated from Cave Springs High School. She attended college and obtained her Bachelors in Behavioral Science through work and determination. Mildred was a former employee of the Cherokee Nation. She dedicated over twenty years working as a CHR and WIC Nutritionist. She loved people and helping them to live better lives through her job. She was proud of her heritage and could both read and write the Cherokee language, as well as devoting her time to teaching the language to future generations. When she wasn’t working, she loved time in her garden growing flowers , fixing puzzles and playing bingo. Mildred liked watching Andy Griffith shows and doing bead work. The most important thing to Mildred was her family. Her four daughters and nine grandchildren were the world to her. She loved spending the day together sharing a meal and an afternoon of talking and sharing stories. A Baptist by faith, Mildred was a faithful member of Johnson Pritchett Baptist Church. The Lord called Mildred home from her labors on Monday, April 23rd, 2012 in Tulsa, OK with her family by her side. Mildred was 77 years old. She will be greatly missed by her many family, friends, and generations to come.
Mildred is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Edna Bunch , one brother, Edgar Scott, and three brothers that died in infancy.
Mildred is survived by her four loving daughters, Shirley Dawson and husband Rusty of Seminole, OK, Treesa Vann and husband Don of Rocky Ford, OK, Rosalena O’Field and husband Jeff of Rocky Ford, OK, and Angela King and husband Tim of Rocky Ford, OK. She leaves two brothers, George Scott and wife Janice of Rocky Mountain Community, OK, and Richard Scott and wife Irene of Denver, CO. Her sisters include Joanna Hester of Claremore, OK, and half-sister. Reba Hignite. Mildred’s legacy lives on in her four grandsons, five grand daughters, three great grandsons, two great granddaughters, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
