

Nancy Marie (Barnoskie) Swimmer was born on March 9, 1958 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Louis and Betty (Pettit) Barnoskie. She grew up in a large and loving household alongside seven brothers and two sisters, an upbringing that helped shape her deep appreciation for family, culture, and togetherness. Nancy graduated from Tahlequah High School and continued her education by attending courses at Northeastern State University. She dedicated many years of service to her community, first working with security at Talking Leaves Job Corps and later as a radiation assistant for the Cherokee Nation.
Nancy was known for her warm heart, gentle spirit, and wonderful sense of humor. Quick-witted and kind, she had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. Her caring nature and generous heart touched the lives of all who knew her.
Above all else, Nancy’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. Being a grandma was the role she treasured most, and she cherished every moment spent making memories, sharing laughter, and surrounding them with unconditional love. Her grandchildren were truly the light of her life.
Nancy was also known for her good old-fashioned home cooking, bringing family and friends together around the table with meals made with love. She enjoyed fishing, scenic drives, and life’s simple pleasures, always finding joy in the beauty around her.
On June 10, 2026, Nancy was called to her eternal rest at the age of 68. She will be remembered for her devotion to the Lord, her unwavering faith, her love for her family, her kindness, and the joy she shared with those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Betty Barnoskie, two brothers, Jimmy and Troy Barnoskie, and two sisters, Sue Osage and Rosilea Barnoskie.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Nicole Taylor and husband Ryan of Vian, OK and Andrea Swimmer of Sallisaw, OK, their father, Jeff Swimmer of Vian, OK, along with five brothers, Terrill Barnoskie and wife Vesta of Tahlequah, OK, John Barnoskie and wife Erin of Missouri, Dwight Barnoskie and wife Sha’lee of Tulsa, OK, Stoney Barnoskie and wife Michelle of Broken Arrow, OK, and Phillip Barnoskie and wife Shonda of Verdigris, OK. Her legacy lives on through her adored grandchildren, Addison, Cason, Naiya, Nori, Jaxson, and Najee, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones who were blessed to know and love her.
Visitation will be held on June 16, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
Funeral services are on June 17, 2026 at 10:00 am at Cedar Tree Tabernacle in Briggs. She will then be taken to her final resting place at Barnoskie Cemetery in Blackgum.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Taylor, Terrill Barnoskie, John Barnoskie, Dwight Barnoskie, Stoney Barnoskie, Phillip Barnoskie, Devan Johnson, Travis Roberts, and Robert Wilson.
