Pop John Girdner

John Harvey Girdner, or Pop John Girdner to his family and friends, was born on May 26th, 1963 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of JC Monholland and Sadie (Girdner) Long. He grew up with one brother and two sisters, Harold Douglas, Paula, Judy, and Angela who died in infancy. He grew up in Stilwell and attended Cave Springs School. He loved dogs of all kinds and always showed them a home and liked raising gaming cocks. He finished school and served in the National Guard, serving most of his time in North Carolina. He loved hunting, especially deer, and squirrel and loved a day spent fishing. He was an exceptional gardener and could raise about anything. He earned his living as a landscaper, and worked for various companies. He loved his family, and especially his Mother, he adored her. He knew his mind and had no problem telling you how he felt about any given subject. He always came off gruff as a grizzly bear, but had a marshmallow heart. He was a Christian by faith and read his Bible regularly. For all the plans he had for the future, his time on earth came to an end on September 6th, 2024 in Tahlequah, OK. He was 61 years old and will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Rachel (Crickett) Girdner, an uncle, John Springwater, His beloved mother and father, and two of his sisters, Angela Myres, who died in infancy, and Paula Coiner.

Those left to cherish their time with Pop John include, his brother, Harold Douglas Girdner and wife Nan of Tahlequah, Judy Myers of Tahlequah, sister Audrey “Star” Adair of Tahlequah, OK, and numerous nieces and nephews, Bobby Davis of the home, Summer Coiner and husband Aaron of Tahlequah, Gabrielle Myers of Tahlequah and Josh Girdner also of Tahlequah, OK, as well as three great nieces and two great nephews, many cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.

Graveside Services for John Harvey Girdner will be held on Thursday, September 12th, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Hungry Mountain Cemetery with Reverend Jim Sanders officiating. His family will receive guests on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 beginning at 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
