Robert Leroy Clayton was born on July 24th, 1947 in Haskell, OK, the son of Willie Leroy and Essie Leola (Dodd) Clayton. He was raised with three brothers and two sisters, Harvey, Larry, Jimmy, Glenda, and Alene. Times were more than tough, and it became necessary for everyone to help with the bills. So Robert left school and started working and never looked back. From construction work to truck driver, he was a jack of all trades that could truly do it all. He met Jacqueline Sue Dew, and this was to become the love of his life. They would spend the next 40 years sharing love, life and 7 children. He was the loving Dad to five sons and 2 daughters, Robert Jr., Rachel, Joshua, Adam, Justin, Michael, and Krista. When he wasn’t working, he could be found packing up his family and heading to the river for some serious camping and fishing. He was in his element when he was outdoors, even if he only sat in his favorite old chair and holler at the neighbors and friends that drove by. He knew everyone. The best part of all is he was friends with anyone, and didn’t have an enemy. It didn’t matter if you called him Papa or Grandpa, he loved each and everyone of his family unconditionally. He liked when they would spend the day over a cup of coffee and a good visit. He was constantly tinkering on things around the house and could pretty well repair or fix anything. When he was in the house, he was watching all the good ole classics on TV like Gunsmoke, old western, classic car shows, and the good ole country music programs. He was known to make the occasional casino trip for fun, or spend some time on his tablet at home. He had a way of making you smile and laugh. Life was fine with him as long as he had his family. Robert passed from this life on November 30th, 2024 in Tahlequah, OK, surrounded by loved ones. He was 77 years old and will never be forgotten.
Robert is preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother and father, three brothers, Harvey Clayton, Larry Clayton and Jimmy Clayton and one sister, Glenda Clayton. He also joins his grandbaby, Zayne River Dew.
Those left to celebrate his life include his beloved wife of the home, Jacqueline Sue Clayton, and his children, Robert Leroy Clayton Jr and wife Victoria of Muskogee, Rachel Dew-Falcon and husband Ismael of Tahlequah, OK, Joshua Leroy Clayton of Tahlequah, Adam Clayton and wife Summer of Checotah, Justin Dwayne Clayton of Tahlequah, Michael Allen Dew of Tahlequah, and Krista Dew also of Tahlequah. He leaves one sister, Alene Coke and husband Leroy of Porter, OK. He will live on in his 17 grandchildren, as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
