

Roy Douglas Rotramel, or Doug to his family and friends, was born on October 14th, 1942 in Claremore, OK, the son of Roy Foster and Juanita Mary (Shrum) Rotramel. He grew up with one brother and three sisters, Roy “Butch” Foster Rotramel Jr., Connie Harl, Georgia Lee Walker, and Beverly Hampton. He attended school and graduated from Mountain Park in Oklahoma. Following school, he was enlisted into the United States Army, serving honorably from September 28th, 1962 until his honorable discharge April 6th, 1965, serving with Hq Battery, First Battalion, 13th Artillery, Seventh Army in Germany. He returned home, then decided on a career as an auto mechanic for Ford in the auto body department. He married and started a family, raising one son and two daughters, Robert, Mary “Nita” Kirk and Kathy Rotramel. He was never one to sit and let the grass grow under his feet, Roy loved collecting coins, he ran races and raced race cars, loved to play a good game of poker, and any spare time was spent watching OU Football and grilling some goodies for his family. He loved to BBQ, and shared his talent with his neighbors! He had a personality that was larger than life, and a laugh that let you know how much he enjoyed life. He eventually went to work for the DA’s office as a undercover officer, then as a security officer for Baker Hughes in Sand Springs, OK, He eventually got to open up his own little bait shop, “The Guess What Shop” in Oilton, OK, and here he stayed until retirement. He was a Christian by faith, and served as a deacon at Anchor Baptist Church in Turley, OK. He loved life, loved the people he encountered daily, and never took one moment for granted. He passed from this life on June 6th, 2022 in Sperry, Ok, surrounded by those who knew him well. He was 79 years old.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother and father, his brother, Butch Rotramel Jr., and two sisters, Georgia Lee Walker, and Beverly Hampton.
He leaves the family he loved and adored behind, son Robert Rotramel of Oilton, OK, and two daughters, Mary “Nita” Kirk and husband John and Kathy Rotramel of Bixby, OK. He leaves a sister, Connie Harl of Verdigris, OK, Doug lives on in his five grandchildren, Heather Kirk of Sperry, OK, Dakota Kirk of Park Hill, OK, Cyawa Kirk of Park Hill, OK, Destiny Clark and husband Chris of Tahlequah, and Braden McManus of Bixby, OK. The great grandchildren include Nathan Kirk, Aaron Lee Kirk, Ashlin Kirk, Leslie Clark, and a lifelong partner, Carol Rotramel. He leaves a very special friend, and race car enthusiast, Donald Mills, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
Funeral services for Roy Douglas “Doug” Rotramel will be conducted by Pastor Loyd Kester. Honorary pallbearers for Roy include Dakota Kirk, John Kirk, Cyawa Kirk, and Chris Clark.
