Roy Lester Thompson was born on March 30th, 1939 in Teresita, OK, the son of William Herman and Maudie Irene (Hicks) Thompson. After graduation from Oaks High School in May 1957, Roy married Shirley, who lived near Lucky Springs, not far downstream on Spring Creek from the homeplace. The newlyweds moved to Wichita Kansas, where Roy found work as a painter’s assistant at Cessna Aircraft. A job that gave him skills for a career in automotive paint and body repair that allowed him to provide for his family. Roy raised Herschell, Herman, Emmett, and Teresa with the help of his siblings and mother after separating from Shirley in 1970. Roy and Jackie Walkingstick got together in the mid ‘80s and later adopted grandson Dustin as their own. Roy raised Dustin after losing Jackie to cancer in 1995. Roy was a father figure in the lives of many young people over the years and shared of himself and what he had to make their lives better. Roy, to retire from body work, bought a semi and hauled refrigerated loads across the country for a while with Herman as a co-driver. He built a milk barn and milked cows for a while, until it became too much like punching a time clock. He went back to the body shop that Herschell had kept running. Herschell was the only one that learned the craftsmanship that served Roy for so long. He was a man that knew how to enjoy life and lived it to the fullest every day he had. Roy passed from this life on February 25th, 2021 after reaching the age of 81 years. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers Junior and Steve, four sisters, Goldie, Merle, Mildred, and Martha Lou, and grandson, Jeremiah Thompson.
