Their union was blessed with nine children and they enjoyed 64 loving years together. A Christian by faith, Rufus was a faithful member of the Greenleaf Baptist Church where he was a deacon for over 50 years and was the last of the original deacons of the New Greenleaf Baptist Church. He was a skilled steel guitar player and musician of many other instruments. He had a love for music and enjoyed any time spent jamming with other musicians. Rufus was proud of his heritage and native language. He spoke Cherokee fluently and could also read and write in Cherokee as well. When Rufus wasn’t playing music, he spent many hours outdoors tending to his rose bushes and planting flowers. You could always catch him riding around on his lawn mower, tending to his yard. At the age of 86 years old, the Lord called his good and faithful servant home on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 in Tulsa, OK with his family by his side.
