Sharon Sue Burkhead

Sharon Sue Burkhead was born on May 17th, 1948, in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of James Albert and Susie (Triplett) Powers. Growing up in Tahlequah, OK, she had three brothers and one sister to keep her company, Sam, Bill, George and Pegalene. She loved watching the old westerns on TV, had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke around, and had the most contagious laugh, once you heard it, you were laughing too. She graduated from Tahlequah High School, and met a handsome young man, Virgil Burkhead, and they were married. Together they raised a family of two sons, Kenneth Charles and James Michael Powers. She was a talented lady with a needle and besides sewing, made beautiful blankets. An accomplished cook, there were no rolls as light as her yeast rolls. The most important part of her life were her grandchildren, they took more precedence than any other event, and she loved any chance to spend time with them. She had a large heart and always thought more of others than she did herself. She loved life and enjoyed the simple things in life, like the sunrise from her own front yard. She passed from this life on December 15th, 2023 in Tahlequah, OK, surrounded by those who knew and loved her best. She was 75 years old. She will be missed by those that loved her.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and father, her husband Virgil, three brothers, Sam Powers, Bill Powers, and George Powers, and her sister, Pegalene Revette Patterson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Kenneth Charles and wife Angel of Hulbert, OK, and James Michael Powers and wife Sandra of Oolagah, OK. She will live on in her five grandchildren and one great grandchild, Jamie Sudawn Powers of Tahlequah, Kristy Lynn Powers of Tahlequah, OK, Jacob Michael Powers of Tulsa, OK, John Martin Powers of Skiatook, OK, and Ethan Wayne Charles of Hulbert, OK. She also leaves Khloe Nicole Dash of Tahlequah, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.

Sharon Sue Burkhead will be laid to rest on Friday, December 22nd, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Double Springs Cemetery next to her mother, Susie Triplett Powers. Brother George Hubbard will bring the message of comfort.

Pallbearers for Sharon include Kenneth Charles, Ethan Charles, Jimmy Powers, Jacob Powers, and John Powers.
