Shirley Louise McClure was born October 19, 1939 at Woodall, OK to Lon and Rosa Lea McClure. She was raised with two brothers, Carl and Lonnie, as well as two sisters, Christine and Betty. Her family moved to Hulbert when she was in the first grade. That is when her love for Hulbert began. She was a proud graduate of Hulbert High School, class of 1957. She met and married Frank Teague and from this union, they had three children, Teena, Shari, and Frank Alan. She was a wonderful mother, always putting her children first. Her family were the true treasures in her life. She loved to sew, making all her daughters clothes, as well as clothes for their dolls. She was quite the seamstress! However, where she really shined was in the kitchen. She cooked family dinners that will always be remembered. Every Friday night her family would gather at her home to enjoy a meal and spend time together. The food was always amazing but the laughter and sharing of stories is something that everyone greatly enjoyed. She was the life of those dinners. She was a smart and strong lady shown by her work on the Hulbert City Council, where she served for 20 years, with 18 of those years as Mayor. Evidence of her work as Mayor can be seen all throughout Hulbert. Some of the projects accomplished are the construction of the City Park, splash pad, Christmas decorations, as well as the Christmas Parade. She worked at the Tahlequah Post Office for 28 years and was the first woman to work there. There, she became well known in the city of Tahlequah and was beloved by her co-workers and customers. She always had a smile that was infectious to those around her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Teague, her daughter, Teena Blanket, and her parents, Lon and Rosa Lea McClure, siblings, Carl McClure, Christine Turney, Betty Austin, and Lonnie McClure.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Shari and husband Jerry Pruitt, son, Frank Alan and wife Julie and son-in-law, Titus Blanket. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren: Stan Shade, Nick Pruitt and wife Terri, Jake Pruitt and wife Nikky, Trey Teague and wife Stormey, and Calan Teague; as well as her great grandchildren: Jackson, Cora, Sutton, Harrison and Lawson Pruitt, Alyvia and Abygail Shade, Namina and Frankie Teague, sister-in-law, Kathy McClure, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
