Steven Geronimo Whitekiller was born on March 7th, 1960 in Caney, KS, the son of Alvin and Verla Rose (Nellch) Whitekiller. He joined a family with two older brothers, Johnny and Michael. He passed from this life on Friday, November 10th, 2017, doing what he loved at the age of 57 years, 8 months and 3 days, in Chelsea, OK. He attended school in Wichita and then decided to begin his career as a carpenter. He loved building houses and was proud of his work. He worked alongside his best friend, Jerry Craig, for 30 years. When he wasn’t working, he could be found outdoors, taking one of his peaceful walks in the woods, where he often said he would talk to God. He enjoyed nature and all of its beauty. He loved any time spent with his wife Leda and his family, catching crawdads for Leda to cook was a must. He married his best friend, Leda Henson on May 26th, 1989, in Miami, OK. This union was blessed with three children and a lot of happiness. He was tremendously proud of his Cherokee heritage, and in his younger years, Steve danced in the pow wows with his son Cole during the Cherokee National Holiday. He could draw anything he set his mind to, and was an avid OU fan, never missing the chance to watch the game. He was a tried and true family man, always doing what ever he could to make sure his family was well cared for. He was so happy any chance he had to be with his grandchildren, he adored the very ground they walked on. A Baptist by faith, Steve left this world all too soon, leaving a vacancy no one else can ever fill. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his wife, children and grandchildren.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, both brothers, four uncles, two aunts, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, one nephew and two cousins.
His memory will be cherished by his wife of the home, one daughter, Jennifer Foster and husband Daniel of Hulbert, OK, his son, Cole Whitekiller and his fiancé, Charity Rhodes of Hulbert, OK, and his son Matthew Whitekiller of the home in Hulbert, OK. He lives on in his four grandchildren, Caleb Foster, Braydan Foster, Braxton Foster, and Brooklynn Rhodes all of Hulbert. He leaves his Uncle Curtis Whitekiller and wife Cheryl of Lost City, and Calvin Whitekiller of Claremore. He leaves two special aunts, Charlene Whitekiller of Missouri and Sharon Kay Foster of Tahlequah. He has three brothers-in-law, Ed Henson and wife Margaret of Broken Arrow, Luther Henson and wife Doris of Lost City, and Don Henson of Lost City. He also leaves one sister-in-law, Mimi Jones and husband Larry of Lost City as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
