Sylvia Leona Long Gatewood

STILWELL, OK – Sylvia Leona (Long) Gatewood was born on February 17, 1927 in Tahlequah, OK to Christopher and Johnemma (Catron) Long. Sylvia was a very loving wife, mother and great, great Grannie. She enjoyed going fishing and camping at Lake Mont Shores with the love of her life and family. They always had the best music parties. People would come from all around to enjoy great company, good food and awesome music. She enjoyed vacationing in Colorado, Nashville and visiting the Grand Canyon with her grandchildren, family and friends. She was strong willed and had no problem telling you what she thought. She loved to tell stories and talk of family history. If you ever wanted to know your kin folk she would be the one to ask. She was a homemaker and book keeper for the saw mill her and Cecil owned. She departed this life on August 20th, 2014 to be with our Heavenly Father and her beloved Husband, Cecil who departed this life on August 10th, 2013. Sylvia was 87 years, 6 months and 3 days old. She was a loving and caring lady who will be truly missed by all who knew her. Her family finds comfort in knowing there is an angel watching over them from Heaven.

Those preceding her in death include her husband, her parents, one brother; two sons, Leon Delbert Gatewood and Harold Dean Gatewood and two grandsons, Bobby and Joseph Gatewood.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Chris Gatewood and wife Sherry, Melissa Gatewood and husband Charles Risley, Melinda Gatewood, Sonia Rice Gatewood, April Webb and husband Billy Webb, Matthew Gatewood, Josh Gatewood, Lisa White and Toby White; great grandchildren, Matthew Gatewood, Thomas Gatewood, Alex Brown, Kristina Gatewood, Miranda Gatewood and husband Camron Adams, Cindy Gatewood, Chaisity Gatewood, Zack and Josiah, Bobby Gatewood, Sara Burrleson and husband Dakota, Bradley and Mattie Webb, Sherri Fisher and husband Seth, Joseph Risley, Kyle and Kara Poteet, Courtnee Green & Autumn Russo; Great Great Grandchildren, Rowan Poteet, Sheldon Gatewood (the next Chief of the Cherokee’s as Granny Liked to say), Sky and Dallie Fisher, Thor and Blisk Adams and Autumn Gatewood as well as many other relatives, friends and loved ones.
