Vera Louise Cookson

Vera Louise Chambers Cookson of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, was born on February 18, 1923, in Qualls, Oklahoma to Marvin F. Chambers and Ruth Brannam Chambers and died on March 13, 2023, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, at the age of 100. Vera lived her life in Cherokee and Muskogee counties. She married Joe Cookson, and together they raised six children. Vera enjoyed cooking, quilting, sewing, gardening, and raising flowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and sister, husband, Joe, brother, Charles Chambers, daughter, Ruth Carnagey, granddaughter, Dee Ann Cook Hoover, grandsons Brant Cookson, Malcom Cookson, and Matthew Cookson, and great-grandson, Cody Cookson. She is survived by her daughter, Loretta Cook, and husband, Jim, of Cushing, son-in-law Jim Carnagey of Fort Gibson, son, Tom Cookson, and wife, Monika, of San Diego, California, son, Joe Cookson and wife, Saundra, of Fort Gibson, daughter, Brenda White, and husband, David, of Dallas, Texas, and son, Gary Cookson and wife, Dana, of Oologah.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, John Cook and wife, April, of Frontenac, Kansas, Brian Cookson and wife, Deborah, of Cookson, Jimmie Joe Cook and wife, Deidre, of Cushing, Joey Cookson of Wagoner, Kara Carnagey West and husband, John, of Fort Gibson, Greg White and wife, Marcie, of Plano, Texas, and McKenzie Cookson of Oologah.
Her great-grandchildren include Alan Hoover, Kyle Hoover, Kelsi Cook, Bayli Cook, Eli Cook, Colby Cook, Jake West, Peyton West, Megan Schmidt, Rhett Cookson, Landon Cookson, Bailee Battin, Maddie Cookson, Carson White, and Austin White. She is also survived by great-great grandchildren, Gage Hoover, Harper Battin, and Elizabeth Battin.
She is survived by nieces, Barbara Johnson and Donna Garland and nephew, John Chambers.
A private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 15, at the Tahlequah City Cemetery with her grandsons serving as honorary pallbearers. Son-in-law Dr. David White will officiate.
