Wavalene Anne Robbins was born on March 5, 1943. She enjoyed the creative side of her schooling, acting in plays, and memorizing poetry for class. She was active in 4H and kept her ribbons of which she was proud. She was a very talented person who took to dressmaking classes and excelled at it. This was the beginning of her lifelong love of sewing in which she showed her ability to create anything she put her mind to.
Wavalene married Wallace Winkler on March 31, 1962 and they began their life together. They were deeply committed to one another and celebrated 60 years of marriage last year.
Wavalene and Wally were an adventurous couple in their youth and dreamed of Canada. They often went camping, taking their children them and instilling a love of the outdoors.
Wavalene had a deep and abiding faith in Christ which never wavered. She was very active as a children’s teacher and volunteer in all churches she attended. She also taught at Omega Christian Academy for over a decade. She often did without to ensure that her children could attend Christian schools and learn a Biblical worldview.
She loved her four children: Willy, Lisa, Warren, and Wendy. She delighted in her many grandchildren: Freddy, Artie, Brooke, Seth, Caleb, Kiah, Josiah, Ary Anna, Abby, William, Austin, Daniel, Asha, and Ethan. Her conversations often included them and the pride she had in their accomplishments. She also had great grandchildren whom she enjoyed watching grow through visits and pictures sent to her: Tyler, Michael, Ava, Gideon, Eleanor, Ariel, Alexander, and the soon to be born Anthony who she was waiting to meet.
Wavalene passed away on February 22, 2023.
She will be missed but will remain in our hearts and memories.
A celebration of life for Wavalene will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 1:00 PM at New Life Worship Center in Tahlequah.
